System engineering approach toward the problem of battery depth-of-discharge of a LEO satellite

چکیده
During the last few decades, battery Depth-of-Discharge (DoD) problem has always been a challenging and limiting factor on satellite-mission duration. This paper, from a system engineering point of view, comprehensively describes the power-hungry phases of a typical Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite mission. Theses phases, each by itself or in any combination(s), may lead to high DoD levels (mainly during the eclipse phase), which will in turn shorten the mission-life, considerably. To handle the challenge most efficiently, the engineering community has developed three methodologies as:

Optimal Economic Operation and Battery Sizing for Microgrid Energy Management Systems Considering Demand Response
Microgrids (MGs) contain a diverse mix of energy resources to provide safe and secure power to the consumers. Batteries are utilized in MGs for further energy security assurance as well as cost minimization. In this paper, an efficient approach is introduced for simultaneous energy management and optimal battery sizing to accomplish economic MG operation. Also, demand response programs are empl...
متن کاملDetermination of the best-fitting reference orbit for a LEO satellite using the Lagrange coefficients
Linearization of the nonlinear equations and iterative solution is the most well-known scheme in many engineering problems. For geodetic applications of the LEO satellites, e.g. the Earth’s gravity field recovery, one needs to provide an initial guess of the satellite location or the so-called reference orbit. Numerical integration can be utilized for generating the reference orbit if a satelli...
متن کاملOptimal Scheduling of Battery Energy Storage System in Distribution Network Considering Uncertainties using hybrid Monte Carlo- Genetic Approach
This paper proposes a novel hybrid Monte Carlo simulation-genetic approach (MCS-GA) for optimal operation of a distribution network considering renewable energy generation systems (REGSs) and battery energy storage systems (BESSs). The aim of this paper is to design an optimal charging /discharging scheduling of BESSs so that the total daily profit of distribution company (Disco) can be maximiz...
متن کاملEffects of Some Parameters on Thermal Control of a LEO Satellite
Satellite thermal control ensures safe operating temperature ranges for satellite components throughout the mission life. Effects of altitude, spin, and position of satellite radiator(s) on the thermal control of a small Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite have been studied. Results show that change in satellite altitude, in the range considered here, does not produce critical thermal conditions. H...

Separated Turnstile (ST) Antenna has many applications in small Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Ability of dual-band operation and circular polarization are the main features of this antenna. The purpose of this paper is design and analysis of a Separated Turnstile antenna, which can work in UHF and VHF band simultaneously. The antenna has saddle-shaped radiation pattern in UHF band for data ...
